Athirapally waterfalls is located in Thrissur district in Kerala, which is at the south-west coast of India. Originated from the Western Ghats this waterfall is located on Chalakudy river, which is about 145 kilometers long.


This 24-metre (80 ft) waterfall and the nearby Vazhachal Falls are popular tourist destinations. A visit to this majestic waterfall is a must for everyone who wants to enjoy Kerala tour packages.


Athirapally waterfall played vital roles in various hit movies because of its eye-catching beauty. One of the recently launched movie Bahubali was filmed here and that attracted the number of visitors to this beautiful falls.


In the forests of the Athirapally-Vazhachal area many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found. Also this area is the only place in the Western Ghats where four endangered Hornbill species are seen. The Western Ghats is one of the most important biodiversity hot spot in the world.


There are few other small waterfalls also located in the Chalakkudy River, near to Athirapally waterfalls. The first one is, Vazhachal, which is located about 3 kilometers from Athirapally. This waterfall and the nearby area are famous for its richness in the case of flora and other herbal plantations. The second one is the Charpa falls, which is located between Vazhachal forest and Athirapally waterfalls. This waterfall is more beautiful during the rainy reason.


SOME TIPS FOR VISITORS TRAVELING ATHIRAPALLY WATERFALLS:-

Ø  Visiting Time: Day time (8am -6pm)
Ø  Entry Fee: Entry Pass from the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department
Ø  The waterfall is at a distance of 15 minutes of walk from the entrance. So it requires quite a fair amount of walking on an irregular forest terrain. Do wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Ø  Plan with enough time in hand, in order to enjoy the waterfall to the fullest.
Ø  Food and water supplies aren’t available here. So, keep in mind to carry such necessary items.


Best Time to Visit:-

It is best suited for a monsoon visit when the forest is green and the water flows with full force. The heavy rain in month of July and august may often be risky for swim and other activities. So, it’s better to visit the post monsoon season that is in September-October.

How to Reach:-


The nearest railway station is Chalakuddy. Thrissur and Ernakulum railway station lies at a distance of 55km and 70 km respectively. Cochin airport at 55km is the nearest airports. Regular buses and hired cars or taxis are also available from Thrissur, Chalakuddy and Cochin.
